John Tucker is a District Superintendent in the United Methodist Church and an independent scholar of Ludwig Wittgenstein’s philosophy. Raised a Southern Baptist, he transitioned to progressive Christianity by going through an atheistic period and then reading major works in Liberation theology.

His book, Zero Theology: Escaping Belief Through Catch 22s, is an expansion of Wittgenstein’s views into areas of Christian theology such as Original Sin, Grace, the identify of Jesus, and miracles. The book has been endorsed by noted Christian thinker, Brian McLaren, and Process Theologian, Thomas J. Oord. Tucker also counts Daniel Dennett, one of the “four horsemen of New Atheism,” as an appreciative reader.

He lives in Corvallis, Oregon, with his wife, Linda, who is also a United Methodist Pastor, and their two children, ages 20 and 15. As the back of his book says, John is from Alabama so he understands that fundamentalism is a threat, that college football is king, and that barbecue is a noun. In his spare time he writes and records songs and puts them on Spotify.
