Dear Folks -
Over the years there has been a massive amount of research done on the values of having a meditation practice. Simply knowing how to practice stress reduction and relaxation exercises has valuable physiological results - like, for example, lowering blood pressure and reducing hormones that lead to heart attacks. When the element of a “loving kindness and compassion” component is added to this, the good benefits multiply exponentially.
In using the Gospel of Thomas as a flashlight to illuminate the path we are attempting to walk together in Ordinary Life, we came to the teaching that everyone is familiar with: “Love Your Neighbor As Yourself.” I doubt that most people could tell you what that teaching actually means. It has to do with justice, another misunderstood and hot topic. It also has to do with how “loving the neighbor” not only give us a better world but also better personal lives.
