Living the Questions

ORDINARY LIFE - Thoughts and Ideas to Help You Live a Happier Life

* * *

Summary for September 23, 2018

Dear Folks -

Bill and Sherry have begun their vacation in the Balkans and will be away from Ordinary Life for the next few weeks. I, Wayne Herbert, will be preparing the weekly previews and summaries until Bill returns. Please contact me if you have comments or suggestions. Bill will be sharing his journey on the blog while he travels.

This last Sunday, Brooke Summers-Perry and Bill had an engaging dialogue about life, mindfulness, and the journey that all of us are taking, which they titled

“Living the Questions”

Brooke and Bill had an engaging and thoughtful discussion about our society, its ills, and how we can live in it and make it better. They spoke of our communal interdependence, dealing with our anger and triggers, and channeling it constructively. Brook spoke of never learning to deal with anger in healthy ways because "good girls" weren't supposed to have those kinds of feelings, and how that affected her life. Bill spoke of spiritual practice: Being aware without being reactive and judgmental, noting a Buddha acronym, "RAIN"... Recognize the thought, Allow, accept it, don’t be judgmental about it, Investigate, identify where it shows up in your body. Then, develop a non attached relationship to it, Nurture.

This is only a very brief summary of the wide ranging discussion Brooke and Bill had in this week's Ordinary Life.

Brooke has transcribed the discussion into a text format (thank you, Brooke!) and you can read the discussion between Brooke and Bill at the link, below. You can view Brooke's handouts, and find the audio and video version of the discussion at the link below.

If you have not registered for the Michael Dowd event, I strongly encourage you to do so. Available space is rapidly filling up. To register, click here.

Please also don't forget that Rob Landes will be in concert on Sunday, October 21, 2018, starting at 4 p.m. Rob has performed frequently at St. Paul's both as organist and pianist. This will be a benefit fund raiser for Michael Dowd's appearance in November. There is no charge for this benefit concert and all donations are gratefully received. For more information, click here.

Although it is Bill's tagline that he uses to end his summaries, I too, want to say, "If you are reading this, I want you to know how grateful I am for and to you."

Peace and blessings to you.

Wayne Herbert
