Dear Folks -
We have a phrase in our culture - TGIF - “Thank God It’s Friday.”
I used this as the starting point for talking about one of the reasons I think we have such a violent culture and world. People become like the God they worship. In our culture the prevailing religion is consumerism which puts winning, success, coming out on top and the like as highest priorities.
Even the “god” of most religions turns out to be a god of vengeance and violence. In the Christian story some see that God demands the death of his son to open access to this God. Others see this as “divine child abuse.”
In this talk I give my own interpretation of how this, in my opinion, misunderstanding has come about and talk about the importance of, not the path of ascent, but the path of descent as the way to wholeness.
