Going Deeper In and Further Out

Dear Ones -

I gave this title to the teaching offered this week -

Living With Understanding In a Culture of Fear

I have frequently referred to the belief that “Jesus died for our sins” as the most successful piece of bad theology ever written. I have never, however, taught about when and how this doctrine worked its way into Christian teaching. This teaching is an attempt to do that.

I been with a quote by Carl Jung who said: “Christian civilization has proved hollow to a terrifying degree. Too few people have experienced the divine image as the innermost presence of their own souls.” Another premise of the teaching is that our image of god, conscious to us or not, determines the images we have of our selves and how we behave.

That’s a brief summary of the content of this week’s teaching. Viewing the presentation slides is helpful. The audio/video version of the talk has some differences from the text from which I spoke. You can find a link to the text of the talk by clicking here. On the Ordinary Life website you can also find links to the audio and video of the time.
