The Questions About Jesus

Last week at the end of our time together I said that one of the ways we know

and are touched by the Sacred is through art and one form of art is poetry. Today

I want to begin with a poem. It is a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke that I use a lot.

You've may have heard me use it before.

Be patient with all

that is unresolved in your heart.

Try to love the questions themselves

like locked rooms and books

that are written in a very foreign tongue.

Do not seek the answers that cannot be given

because you would not be able to live them.

And the point is, to live everything.

Live the questions now

and perhaps without noticing it

you will live along some distant day

into the answers.
