Dear Folks -

As is sometimes the case, the audio version of the talk I gave in Ordinary Life this week is somewhat different from the text. Also, the presentation slides contain the cartoons I used to underscore some of the points.

In brief I talked about how we live in a culture that tries its best to confuse and delude us about our true identity. I use Neil Postman’s classic work, “Amusing Ourselves to Death,” to make my point. Though things like the Super Bowl and the Academy Awards take center stage, few people can remember who won these events or awards just a few years ago. Most people remember their first grade teacher’s name, first pet’s name and their childhood friends.

We hang on to what really matters by getting two questions correctly answered and keeping the answers in front of us. The questions are: who are we and where are we going?

Actually, whether we are aware of it or not, we live immersed in Sacred Mystery. What gives true meaning to our lives is developing the ongoing awareness of this as our identity and destiny.

Be well and much love,
