Dear Folks -
This week in Ordinary Life I gave the third in a series of three talks designed to lay the foundation for our going further out and deeper into the territory I’m calling “living between the ‘no-longer’ and the ‘not-yet.’” I have been talking about how magic and miracles got introduced into human constructed religions and, more specifically, into the Jewish and Christian stories. This week’s talk focused on the stories surrounding the prophetic tradition in Judaism.
Miracles were never meant to be taken literally. They were metaphors created to make “larger than life” the heroes in a particular tradition.
The relevance of this for our time is that in an increasingly illiterate culture and one where “entertainment” trumps truth, we end up being addicted to the finite with the illusion that this is enough for us. It isn’t. We have a choice about which path we will follow. An old one constructed out of a medieval paradigm and mechanistic culture. Or, one that calls us to awaken and walk the evolutionary path toward an integral wholeness.
That is a very brief summary of the talk I offered in Ordinary Life this week. I called it -
