Summary for May 2, 2021

Dear Folks -

The Steering Committee of Ordinary Life will be meeting both next Monday and May 24th to put in place a plan and structure for reopening for in-person attendance. The date for re-opening is June 6. Just as when we were shut down by Covid-19, going forward will be a “work in progress.” We will learn, adapt and adjust as we go. As the plans take shape, you will be kept informed.

We called what we offered in Ordinary Life this week -

Taking the Exam then Attending the Class

I begin by talking about how what we know as the Lord's Prayer came to be written, what it meant for those who constructed it, and how it can be useful for us in our on-going spiritual work. We focused specifically on the line in the prayer that is the most misunderstood and certainly the one that suffers from the worst translation - "lead us not into temptation." Holly talks about the problem of evil from both philosophical and theological perspectives. I assert that God does not lead anyone into temptation. Then we both elaborate on how putting our allegiance to the Sacred central in and to our lives, we will be led in the direction of making wise and useful choices.

That is a very brief summary of Ordinary Life for this week.

You can find the text we had in front of us, the presentation slides and the audio version of the talk using the links below.

Also, be aware that we have instituted a weekly podcast. It is called “In Between.” You can access this through the Ordinary Life website.
