Dear Folks -

It is with sadness that I inform you that on Sunday, around noon, long time Ordinary Life attendee, Lis Kinne, died. She had been dealing with the effects of cancer for some time. Arrangements for a memorial service are pending.

This week in Ordinary Life I shared some experiences and photos of our recent St. Nicholas Pilgrimage in Southern Italy. I used some of these experiences as a way to move into talking about a teaching of Jesus that, because it is so frequently taken at the dualistic level, is rejected out of hand as being both unrealistic and too difficult to implement. The title of the talk is -

Living With An Open, Compassionate Heart in a Close-Minded, Frightened World

You can read the complete text, find the presentation slides (which contain the photos) and the audio file using the links below. You will also find a link to the complete article about the church that gave each of its members a check for $500 along with the instruction, “Do good in the world.”

I referred to the book “The Book of Joy” in the talk. I highly recommend this book - it is the record of a week of conversations between the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu - not only for the interactions between these two spiritual giants but also because at the end of the book there is a full “catalog” of spiritual practices valuable in constructing a life of joy and compassion.

If you are reading this, I want you to know how grateful I am for and to you.

Be well and much love,

Bill Kerley
