Dear Folks -
I gave the talk I offered in Ordinary Life this week this title -
Attempting To Find Words For What Cannot Be Said
The talk begins with a very brief summary of last Sunday’s presentation, “Coloring Outside the Lines With a Very Full Palette.” One of the biggest colors on that palette is mysticism. I didn’t get to deal with it in that talk so I decided to devote this entire talk to the matter. I introduced a developmental model that allowed me to talk about “trans-rational mysticism.” There are many models used to understand the growth possibilities of humans. Abraham Maslow’s model is one example. So is the one put forth by Erick Erickson. All teachers of such models insist that for “growth” to be effective we must transcend one developmental period but include it when we move forward. Ken Wilbur refers to this as “transcend and include, include and transcend.” We must see the value of where we have been but not allow where we are either to blind us to where we need to go or bind us in being able to move there. The end for those who seek to follow Jesus is to know that until everyone is given honor, freedom and love, our faith journey is not complete.
That is a brief summary of the talk offered in Ordinary Life. The audio version contains all the asides and ad libs.
