Summary for June 21, 2020

Dear Folks -

Currently in Ordinary Life we are seeking to see how the teachings of both Buddha and Jesus can guide us through these turbulent times. We all want to be happy. We all want to be free from suffering. We all want to live meaningful lives. The way we go about seeking these things often ends up with our having even less of them. Why is that? What can be done about it? Both Jesus and Buddha taught about “a way” to follow that will lead to freedom from suffering. In Buddhism this “way” is referred to as the Eightfold Path. This week we undertook expanding on the first of these steps. It is called “right understanding.” Right understanding is about how we can find happiness and freedom from suffering by being totally present in the moment and being present without greed or aversions.

That is a very brief summary of the content of Ordinary Life. We called the talk -

Looking Into the Future by Stepping into the Present

You can find the text we had in front of us, the presentation slides and the audio version of the talk using the links below. The printed text contains much more content that we were able to offer in the live presentation.

Also, be aware that we have instituted a weekly podcast. It is called “In Between.” You can access this through the Ordinary Life website.

If you are reading this, I want you to know how grateful I am for and to you.

Be well and much love,

Bill Kerley
