SUNDAY LECTURE | Dishonesty Is the Worst Policy

ORDINARY LIFE - Thoughts and Ideas to Help You Live a Happier Life

Summary for July 5, 2020

Dear Folks -

Spiritual teachings seem to fall into one of three categories: wisdom teachings, morality teachings and mental discipline teachings. This week we moved into the morality teachings of the Eightfold Path of Buddhism. This one is on “right speech.” It is put in a category all to itself and for good reason. One little word said or not said can make such a difference. At the beginning of the talk I illustrate this with some bloopers taken from church bulletins. Holly talks about how deception is an evolutionary tool and can be an aspect of right speech. Sometimes silence is golden. Sometimes, however, silence is yellow - that is, cowardice. It takes right thought to know when to speak, what to say and when not to speak. We called the talk -

Dishonesty Is The Worst Policy.

You can find the text we had in front of us, the presentation slides and the audio version of the talk using the links below. The printed text contains much more content that we were able to offer in the live presentation.

Also, be aware that we have instituted a weekly podcast. It is called “In Between.” You can access this through the Ordinary Life website.

If you are reading this, I want you to know how grateful I am for and to you.

Be well and much love,

Bill Kerley
