Summary for February 28, 2021

Dear Folks -
First, if you are in need of any kind of assistance in dealing with the aftermath of the recent winter storm here or if you are in a place to volunteer your time or items, please go to the St. Paul’s website and see the available options. Click here to be taken to the St. Paul’s landing page.
Second, John Tucker, author of “Zero Theology,” will be with us for a webinar Tuesday night, March the 9th at 7 p.m. In order to register for this free webinar, click here. I strongly encourage you to purchase his book and read it by March 9. Reading it will stretch and challenge you. However, the content of the book is an indication of the “theology of the future.” Whether you read the book or not, this is going to be a rich opportunity for theological learning and discussion. (Actually, I'd suggest reading the last chapter first.)
This week in Ordinary Life we gave this title to what we had to say -
Walking the Path Between the Infantile and the Trivial
We began with one of our favorite quotes from Sara Grant’s book, Toward an Alternative Theology. The quote is, “It is not the way because Jesus walked it. Jesus walked it because it is the way.” What is that way? One of the things it involves is an unceasing search for union with the unfathomable mystery that is reality itself. This is a bi-directional movement of inward and outward work. Fundamentalism is the infantile way and the “prosperity gospel” in its many forms is the trivial way to walk. It takes daily work to stay on the path.
That is a very brief summary of our time in Ordinary Life this week. This is one of those weeks where the text and the audio are different and where viewing the presentation slides is helpful.
You can find the text we had in front of us, the presentation slides and the audio version of the talk using the links below.
Also, be aware that we have instituted a weekly podcast. It is called “In Between.” You can access this through the Ordinary Life website.

If you are reading this, I want you to know how grateful I am for and to you.
Be well and much love,
Bill Kerley
