Ok so here’s a doozy of a conversation starter: Hello! How are you today? What’s a morphogenic field?
Memorize this for your next cocktail party:
“Natural systems, or morphic units, at all levels of complexity — atoms, molecules, crystals, cells, tissues, organs, organisms, and societies of organisms — are animated, organized, and coordinated by morphic fields, which contain an inherent memory. Natural systems inherit this collective memory from all previous things of their kind by a process called morphic resonance, with the result that patterns of development and behavior become increasingly habitual through repetition. There is a continuous spectrum of morphic fields, including morphogenetic fields, behavioral fields, mental fields, and social and cultural fields.” ~Rupert Sheldrake
Simply put the morphogenic field is a kind of organizing pattern that communicates the connection between all things. It could be like dark matter or the interstitium or maybe even love…as I see it, these are the things that keep us from flying apart, both materially and spiritually and also relationally.
This connection is not something we have to discover; it is something to get present to. It is the enchanted and enchanting universe of which we are already a part, be it in the form of a robin egg blue thunderbird, a dazzling sunset, or your hand on the hot forehead of a sick kid. Our energies are always intersecting, and once they have, we hold that memory forever.
