Dear Ones -

This week in Ordinary Life I dealt with the matter of theodicy. Theodicy is the study of why/how could an all-powerful, and even more important, an all loving God allow the evil and suffering that is in the world to exist? The understanding of God at the time of Jesus was that God was a God of justice. That is, you got in life what you deserved. I offer the parody about why "stuff" happens from the perspective of various religions. The fact is that life is difficult and to be human is to know suffering. It makes no sense to have a religious belief or spiritual practice that can't deal with this and there is nothing that influences the quality of your life any more than the trouble that comes to you and what you do with it. Tragedy comes because of statistical probability, human limitation and human evil and wickedness. God's will is that we choose love, honesty, and freedom. Where life is broken, we are call to put it back together.

That’s a brief summary of the time in Ordinary Life this week.
