Summary for June 2, 2019

Dear Folks -

One of the most gratifying aspects of being able to offer the talks I do in Ordinary Life is the new information I am exposed to in my studies. It seems that ever since my encounter with Ilia Delio several years ago that new vistas have opened up in so many areas. One of the things that Michael Morwood has called us to do is to completely rethink all of our religious categories. How do we do that?

I believe the talk I offered this week is an example of what I think this means. What I take to be a parable has for many years been taken to be an actual event. Though it is based on factuality, it is not what most people think it to be. It is so much more profound and liberating. It is the very familiar story of Jesus turning water into wine. My take-aways include: We have to be willing to say “no” to our tribe’s expectation of us. And, we have to be willing to take in mind-altering information and wisdom. We are owned by what we don’t know so becoming conscious is a big part of our growth work. We have to work to make ourselves more open to change, to ambiguity and develop the courage to let go of certainty. If we don’t let go, we can’t move forward in the service of life.

That is a very brief summary of the talk I offered this week in Ordinary Life. I called it -
