Dear Folks -
I called the talk I offered this week in Ordinary Life -
Can I Bring My Friends?
I got the title from some heroic work Dr. Jim Bankston did years ago in creating St. Paul’s as an inclusive and open community. In the talks I offer in Ordinary Life I am in the process of seeking to construct an evolving faith to and for an evolving world. This particular talk is my response to the recent debacle in the United Methodist Church not to evolve but rather to take seriously damaging steps backward in giving expression to “open hearts, open minds, open hands.” The stance the denomination has taken is itself an expression of evil, injustice and oppression. Regardless of this decision, however, each of us still has the responsibility to decide how we will order our lives, by what values we will live. At the end of our time here we will be known as either table-makers or wall builders. That choice is up to us.
That is a very brief summary of the talk offered in Ordinary Life this week. This is another one of those talks where I personally think the audio version is better than the written one.
You can read or download the text from which I spoke, view the presentation slides, listen to the audio of the talk and/or watch the video of the talk using the links below.
If you are reading this, I want you to know how grateful I am for and to you.
Be well and much love,
Bill Kerley
