Dear Folks -

We began Ordinary Life this week with one of my favorite quotes from Carl Jung. He said, "The world will ask you who you are and if you cannot answer, the world will tell you." In the teachings of Jesus, he is clear about what he thought the answer was. He said, "You are the salt of the earth." That is, of course, not the only identity he offered and we'll explore others as we go forward. Jesus didn't, however, say what he meant by being the salt of the earth. It has several meanings and we explore each of them. For centuries people have been led to believe that God is elsewhere, not present. What frees us when it comes to Jesus is not his death but his life. Evolutionary cosmology is causing us to rethink everything about our religious understandings. We have the responsibility and opportunity to construct a religion that has a salty tang and that serves up nourishing food at a table that includes every one. We called the time -
