ORDINARY LIFE - Thoughts and Ideas to Help You Live a Happier Life

Summary of Ordinary Life for December 18, 2022

Dear Ones -
This week I resumed teaching in Ordinary Life. The first thing I did was to express my profound gratitude for the time I have been given to make a major life transition - that of moving our residence from a place we had lived for thirty eight years to something more appropriate for us. I have been grateful for the time to do this and, at the same time, have missed teaching.
The time this week I called -
You Just Never Know
and it is my “30,000 foot view” of the territory I expect to cover in the coming year. I have been, am, and will be guided by two overarching desire: to know, experience, and express what is meant by “authentic existence” and by “authentic religious experience.” Though these have been my spiritual and psychological agenda for decades, I had no idea when this quest started where it would lead. Nor, do we know what is around the corner. We do, however, now have a map of what the territory can look like. This map comes to us from the work of Ken Wilbur and is called “integral theory.” It seeks to take into consideration all quadrants, levels, stages, states, likes, and types of human development. A major point is that being born a human is not sufficient for becoming a human. I will be using Jesus and his teachings as both guidelines and guardrails for going forward. What is taught in Ordinary Life is not a spiritual or a religious path but, rather, a spiritual and religious way of walking the path of being human. (It will help to look at the presentation slides on the Ordinary Life website.)
That’s a brief summary of this week’s time in Ordinary Life.

The next two Sundays are Christmas and New Year’s Day and we will not meet on those two Sundays.
Then, when we return after the first of the year, Jan Phillips will be with us. We will have a time from Saturday morning until the afternoon, including lunch. And she will return on January 7 to teach the class. Registration is already open on the Ordinary Life website with details for those who want to live-stream the event.
Our podcast, “In Between,” can be accessed through the Ordinary Life web site.
