If becoming aware opens us up to joy and wonder, then by the definition of wholeness, it also opens us up to grief and pain. How do we maintain awe in spite of tremendous pain? Jung was likely spot on in his definition of God, saying it is “all things which cross my willful path violently and recklessly, all things which upset my subjective views, plans and intentions, and change the course of my life for better or for worse.”
God is in the ALL of it.
Are we able to listen to the ALL of it? To be sustained by wonderous moments and the hope for their return even amidst the muck? Two people who come to mind are the Dalai Lama and Bishop Desmond Tutu, who sustained joy as they worked toward alleviating injustice. Check out the movie JOY on Netflix HERE.
What brings you sustained joy such that you can go on believing that people are worth fighting for?
