This week we brought to a close our look at three parables told by Jesus. My intention has been that they would serve as an introduction to the methodology we will use in our deep dive into the Gospel of John, which begins with the next Ordinary Life gathering.

This week’s class time focused on the elder brother in the parable of “the compassion father and his two lost sons.” We called the time -

Can We Practice What We Preach?

The reaction many of us have to our current social circumstances and the increase of the number of people who are angry and upset about a variety of things, gives us an excellent opportunity to see our “kinship” with the “elder brother.” The reason this story was so upsetting to those who first heard it is that the community of empowerment Jesus invited people into and to live from is not something that decides between or divides but something that unifies. This the aching need for both our country and our world.

That’s a brief summary of the time in Ordinary Life this week.
